MEET THE MENTEES
Everyone needs a little inspiration in their lives. Meet the mentees & the people who inspire them to be great!
I’m extremely proud to say the people who inspire me are my mother and father. From them, I've learned teamwork, the essence of respect, gratitude, and always keeping a positive attitude. My parents are a dynamic duo who help raise my two siblings and I. One of my favorite things to do with the ones I love is have Family Day. I love when we spend quality time together at the park or at home playing games.Their teachings inspire me to treat others how I would expect to be treated. Hopefully, someday I’m able to be in a career to pass on these skills to others, the way they are instilling them in me. I recognize the hard work and sacrifices my parents make for our family daily. Their hard work definitely deserves more than a “thank you”. Their actions encourage me to live in the moment and be the best I can be for my future.

I am a Pacific Islander (Samoan) who loves to draw, and binge watch movies and spend quality time making new memories with friends and family. My biggest inspiration is my mom. She teaches me how to be respectful and helpful around elders. My mom is also inspirational to me because she models what it’s like to help others in need, and put a smile on their face while doing so. She helps our family by providing things we need, instead of all of our wants..She impacts my life by motivating me to become a stronger person each day. My mom encourages me to get good grades and stay on top of my classes. She pushes me through all of my struggles, and wants nothing but the best for me. These are all things I hope to pass on to others once I graduate college.

Kobe Bryant is someone who inspires me. His ‘Black mamba’ mentality on grinding and working hard while making no excuses is what makes me want to follow in his footsteps. I love the game of basketball, and Kobe motivates me to keep playing, keep grinding, and build my skills up to play at the collegiate or maybe even professional level someday. Kobe’s tenacity inspires me to put my best foot forward and thrive in anything involving the classroom, the court, and most importantly, life!

Someone who inspires me is retired Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu. Troy is known for his long hair, something that shows his independent spirit and love for his Samoan culture. Troy inspires me because he not only loves football, but he loves his family and his culture. He is a positive role model for the Samoan youth who want to play football or just be successful in life .Troy represents the Samoan culture by being one of the only Polynesian safeties during his time in the NFL. Our similarities, like being Samoan and having long hair, are what inspired me to play football. I want to fulfill my dream of making it to the NFL so I can be like Troy or strive to be even better than him.

My Mother is my biggest inspiration because she has always been there for me to cheer me up when I’m down. She supports my sister and I through anything we experience in life. This may sound a bit odd, but I really value and respect my mom for not getting me everything I want. Instead, she supplies me with everything I need. Her single parent skills inspire me to grow and acquire the strength that she models everyday. My mother also inspires me to become an artist someday. Every time I show her a piece of my work, she makes me feel like a million dollar bill with all her compliments and positive criticism. Moy mom drives me to be great in school and encourages me to follow my passion of drawing someday. There are many people who inspire me, but my mom definitely takes the cake.
